Unlike most birds, Emperor penguins lay only a single egg. The egg tapers strongly on one side, an adaptation that allows it to turn in a circle rather than rolling away if dropped during incubation. This egg came from a captive bird at SeaWorld. The egg has a volume of approximately 16 ounces, eight times that of a domestic chicken.
